Our lovely fellow musician friend, Deborah Wilding tasked us with posting our top 20 albums that have influenced us so I thought, what better way to kick off the blog. We'll aim to upload one of the top 20 album's per day that have influenced one or the both of us in on musical path.
We'll start off with the album Hope, by Foy Vance
When we first set up our coffee delivery service (feels like a different life ago), this album was played on loop in that little foyer.
Our coffee bar was portable so we had the pleasure of taking our mini bar on a few outings. One such outing was to a tiny music festival held out in the middle of nowhere in Wales. We were situated in the main teepee tent and served coffees all day and alcohol through the night. We were running off 4 hours sleep if we were lucky.
It was at this sweet little festival that we first saw Foy Vance play. His performance was a beautiful and intimate one, with 400 people around fire pits, fur rugs and farmland. Foy is a brilliant story teller and gorgeous vocalist and seems to create a rare atmosphere with ease. The kind of atmosphere that changes the air and stays with you forever. People were singing his songs late into the night, long after his set had finished.
Even back then, with a new business and a new baby at home, we dreamed that one day we'd have the chance and inspiration to write a song even half as magical as one of Foy's.
The albums that followed this one were equally brilliant but this one will hold a special place in our hearts due to the sentiments attached to it. Please do give it a listen!
